Challenge From my Friends

# 712  Size is 37 x 48 $ 177.00

This quilt is the result of a challenge from my small quilt group, The Dreadful Threads.  The assignment was that we each make 10 identical blocks  All blocks were to be the same size.  There were no restrictions as to color or pattern or block design.  No rules, just 10 blocks.  Then at the next meeting we all swapped blocks.  Which means we all left with 10 different  blocks completely unrelated to each other except for size.  Aaaaghhh!  And the one rule was we had to use a recognizable amount of each one.  This was my attempt to calm the chaos.

My solution, as far as it went, was to whack each block into quarters.  Stacked them up and randomly cut curves thru the entire bunch.  Then basically threw them at the design wall to see how they stuck.  Re-arranged and re-arranged again and decided not to make it my life's work and sewed them together. Then chose a black and white uneven striped print to emphasize some of the curves and give the piece some kind of cohesion. It worked - kind of.

Several of the pieces that came from this challenge were, in my opinion, truly masterpieces.
